Strict dress code is applicable in Iran
Let us tell you that after the Islamic Revolution of 1979, it was made mandatory for women in Iran to wear head and neck i.e. hijab since 1983, but in September last year there were large-scale protests in the country demanding its abolition. Iranian women largely flouted the strict dress code.
The actress was just sentenced
Significantly, after the death of 22-year-old Iranian girl Mahsa Amini in police custody, there was a nationwide protest, which went on for months. Mahsa Amini was arrested by the police for violating the strict Islamic dress code.
Earlier this month, the police also acknowledged that the growing number of women flouting the law was a cause for concern, and have resumed patrolling to nab them. Earlier on Wednesday, a court in Tehran sentenced actress Afsaneh Beygan to two years in prison for not wearing a hijab in a public event.
