Pakistan-Afghanistan Relation: The Taliban government on Friday (July 21) made a fresh plea for peace talks between Pakistan and the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). This had to be done because the demand for action against the terrorist organization from Afghanistan could not be taken forward even after Pakistan’s efforts.

Pakistan this week sent its special envoys to Kabul on a three-day visit to send a clear message that the interim government must take decisive action against the TTP. But after several meetings, the Afghan Taliban told him that Pakistan should adopt the path of peace instead of using force.

Pakistani Ambassador Asad Durrani talks
Pakistani Ambassador Asad Durrani met Afghanistan’s Acting Deputy Prime Minister Mawlawi Abdul Kabir, Acting Foreign Minister Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaki and other officials. Official sources told The Express Tribune that Pakistani officials have clearly conveyed to the Taliban leadership that Pakistan’s patience against the TTP is wearing out.

The Pakistani official said that the issue of terrorism is a serious concern for Pakistan. Pakistani Foreign Office spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch told in her weekly news briefing that we have raised the issue of terrorism on many occasions and in every important conversation between Pakistan and Afghan interim officials.

Tips to follow the path of peace
Pakistani Foreign Office spokeswoman Mumtaz Zahra Baloch was asked whether Ambassador Durrani had raised the issue of cross-border terrorism with Afghan officials, she said, “We have discussed the threat of terrorism emanating from Afghan soil.” But despite Pakistan’s insistence on action against TTP, the Afghan Taliban government is not ready to follow that path. However, according to sources, the Afghan Deputy Prime Minister suggested Pakistan to adopt the path of peace instead of using force.
