The problem of number five for Team India in the Test format remains constant. In the WTC final, Rahane made a good comeback by playing a brilliant inning of 89 runs. But in the series against West Indies, Rahane has proved to be a flop in both the matches. Looking at Rahane’s Test record, now it seems that Team India should look for new options.

Seeing Rahane’s performance in the WTC final of IPL, he was again made the vice-captain of the team. In the first Test, Rahane was able to score three runs, while in the first innings of the second Test, Rahane scored only 8 runs. This performance of Rahane in front of a weak team like West Indies has increased the concern of the team even more. Rahane has been able to score half-centuries only three times in the last 18 innings of the last Test format. Rahane has not scored a century in Tests since December 2020.

Iyer may return

Team India has started making future team in Tests along with T20. Two important changes were made for the series against the West Indies. Yashasvi Jaiswal got the place as an opener, while veteran batsman Pujara was shown the way out of the team. Now Shubman Gill has been shifted to number three. Virat Kohli, however, will continue to bat at number four.
