Manipur Violence: Nearly two months have passed since the Manipur violence, during which sexual harassment and other incidents are coming to the fore with many women. There was internet ban in Manipur since the beginning of the violence, due to which such horrific incidents could not come to light from here. Now after the video of parading two women without clothes has come to the fore, the talk of all such incidents is coming to the fore. For which now a team of National Commission for Women (NCW) has reached Manipur. Where she will meet women from the Kuki and Meitei communities, who were allegedly sexually assaulted.
Victim women will meet
The Women’s Commission is already on the target of social media users for taking delayed action regarding the atrocities on women in Manipur violence. In such a situation, NCW is now trying to contact the victimized women. Commission chief Rekha Sharma had recently told that no delegation has been sent to the violence-affected state so far to meet the survivors of sexual assault.
Complaint was given a month ago
About a month before the video of the two women surfaced, information about such incidents was given to the Women’s Commission. On behalf of social workers, NCW was told by writing a letter about rape, self-immolation, lynching and many such incidents. Social workers who visited the violence affected areas wrote this letter on 12th June. It was told that despite this no step was taken and the Women’s Commission kept silence on this.
No reporting of atrocities on women
According to India Today’s report, Manipur violence was reported, but no one mentioned the atrocities on women. While there were several incidents of sexual harassment against women of both the communities in the last two months. In which cases like gang rape and murder are included.
The first picture of atrocities against women in Manipur came to light when a video dated May 4 went viral on social media a few days back. Two women were paraded naked in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district. The matter of gang rape of a woman also came to the fore. About 150 people have died in this violence so far. Thousands of people have been displaced there.
