Yasin Malik Appears In SC: Delhi jail authorities have suspended four officials in the Yasin Malik security lapse case. An official gave this information on Saturday (July 22). Jail authorities on Friday (July 21) launched an inquiry after Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chief Yasin Malik, serving life sentence in a terror funding case, was taken to the Supreme Court without following the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP).
A senior jail official said that in connection with Yasin Malik’s physical appearance in the Supreme Court on July 21, the prison department has suspended a deputy superintendent, two assistant superintendents and a head warder on Friday (21 July) night. These four were found prima facie responsible on the basis of preliminary investigation.
Mistake from whose side?
The official said that a detailed investigation is being done by DIG Tihar to identify the other officers. According to a senior jail official, on Friday Yasin Malik was produced before the Supreme Court by the authorities of Central Jail No. 7 (Tihar) and prima facie found that it was a lapse on the part of the jail authorities concerned.
The officer further said that the Director General of Prisons has ordered a detailed inquiry into the matter by Deputy Inspector General Rajeev Singh to fix the responsibility of the erring officials. The DG had asked to submit the report within three days.
What was the reason behind the production of Yasin Malik?
Yasin Malik had reached the court to appear in an appeal filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation, challenging a September 2022 order passed by a TADA court in Jammu, requiring his personal presence in the trial related to the killing of four Indian Air Force (IAF) personnel in Srinagar in 1990 and the abduction of Rubaiya Sayeed, the daughter of then Union minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, in 1989. The Supreme Court had stayed the order on April 24, issuing notices to the respondents, including Malik, for their personal appearances.
